Kingdom of Birds "Kenny"
Sounds from Canada
15/10/2025 | Kingdom of Birds’ “Kenny” is a raucous 1-minute-45-second blast of grunge-punk energy that crackles with garage-rock urgency and a distinctly Canadian edge. The track’s punchy riff and scrappy attitude evoke the spirit of underground Argentinian rockers like Los Brujos and Peligrosos Gorriones, while also channeling the off-kilter charm of The Breeders. Hailing from Toronto, the trio—Asa Berezny, Beatrice Richard, and Annabel Barbon-McGuire—deliver a sound that’s unapologetically raw, fueled by years of friendship, basement rehearsals, and over 100 live shows alongside acts like Deerhoof and Partner. “Kenny” captures their signature blend of noisy catharsis and sharp, personal storytelling, all wrapped in a package that’s as chaotic as it is catchy.
The song is a preview of their forthcoming album Vermin (February 2026), born from a period of isolation and introspection in Asa’s life during a lonely Montreal winter. Inspired by an eccentric, naked neighbor who became an unwitting symbol of urban alienation, “Kenny” transforms personal disconnection into something communal and cathartic. Backed by Annabel’s driving bass and Bea’s ferocious drumming, Asa’s vocals cut through with wry vulnerability, creating a track that’s both intimate and explosive. Recorded in Toronto and polished just enough by engineer Elliott Gallagher-Doucette and mastering guru Kristian Montano, Vermin promises to be Kingdom of Birds’ most compelling work yet—a testament to growing up without cleaning up, and turning life’s messy moments into urgent, unforgettable rock anthems.
