Gooseberry’s "D.B. Cooper" is an energetic, three-minute-and-sixteen-second indie rock and pop-punk bop that cleverly dissects the Baby Boomer generation’s unmatched talent for self-mythologizing, using the infamous D.B. Cooper hijacking as a prime cultural touchstone. The track’s witty lyricism is perfectly mirrored by its musical structure, notably featuring a three-measure verse melody that creates a delightfully off-kilter rhythm, subtly reinforcing the song’s theme of unreliable narratives and the fabrications we eventually internalize as truth. Hailing from Brooklyn, the powerhouse trio of Asa Daniels, Evin Rossington, and Will Hammond delivers this standout track from their 2023 sophomore album Validate Me with road-keen musicianship that seamlessly bridges the gap between a gritty DIY ethos and arena-ready alternative rock. Ultimately, "D.B. Cooper" is a fun, thought-provoking anthem that proves Gooseberry are unapologetic masters of turning sharp cultural commentary into irresistibly catchy, high-energy rock.
