After more than two decades of carving out their space in the New York City indie scene, Sublunar Minds delivers a masterclass in authentic, organic groove with "What You See Is What You Get," a 4'35'' slice of daytime jazz-pop and retro soul with a distinct alternative R&B flair. Eschewing the modern trend of isolated tracking and AI generation, the band captured the pure magic of real-time musical interplay by recording live with a full soul band and horns at Brooklyn’s Trout Recordings. The result is a warm, intimate, and bluesy track driven by a lazy, irresistible groove that channels the golden era of 60s and 70s Stax and Motown, marking an exciting new soulful pop direction that builds upon their funk-driven, Talking Heads-meets-Soul Coughing roots. Elevated by the stellar vocal presence of NYC musician and theater performer Kenza Nejmi, the song’s heartfelt, live-in-the-room energy is perfectly complemented by an official music video that captures the band's vibrant in-studio performance. True to its title, "What You See Is What You Get" is a refreshingly honest, lively, and deeply soulful triumph that proves the enduring power of great musicians simply sharing a room and playing from the heart.
