Year of the dog "My friends want to die"
Sounds from France
27/11/2025 | “My Friends Want To Die” by Year of the Dog is a blistering 2-minute-54-second punk explosion that channels raw frustration into infectious, high-octane rock. With fuzzy, overdriven riffs, a breakneck tempo, and an explosive chorus that feels both cathartic and defiant, the track captures the urgency and angst of modern alienation—delivered with the kind of tight, lively band interplay that belies its DIY origins. Despite being a solo project, Year of the Dog sounds like a full-throttle garage band wired on adrenaline, thanks to Nicolas Costa’s all-hands-on-deck approach: writing, recording, engineering, and performing every part in his basement-turned-studio (dubbed “Infested Records”) beneath his daughter’s room.
Based in Paris and emerging from the same creative well as Costa’s other project, Talia, Year of the Dog embodies the scrappy spirit of 100% independent rock. “My Friends Want To Die” serves as the first single from the sophomore album Twice Bitten, following a debut record crafted in feverish nocturnal sessions during summer 2023—20 songs written and recorded in days, 12 of them surviving as a potent, unfiltered statement. Now relentlessly touring and seeking label support to amplify their reach, Year of the Dog proves that punk isn’t dead; it’s alive, urgent, and being reborn in a Parisian basement, one DIY anthem at a time.
