Tripod’s “You” is a ferocious three-minute blast that channels the unapologetic spirit of ’90s grunge while injecting it with progressive flair and hard rock muscle. Hailing from Norway, the quintet straddles the line between stoner metal’s heaviness and grunge’s raw emotional grit, creating a sound that’s both cathartic and surprisingly melodic. Driven by groovy, razor-sharp riffs, thunderous drums, and a bassline that rumbles like distant thunder, “You” showcases the band’s knack for balancing chaos and catchiness. Since their 2008 debut Nevermind This Black Album, Tripod has steadily honed their massive sonic identity, culminating in increasingly ambitious projects like 2012’s Four Coins—mixed by legendary producer Beau Hill—and their 2014 follow-up recorded at Prague’s Sono Records. That album, enriched by orchestral textures from the Apollon Quartet and guest vocals from Norwegian artist Martine Rygvold, marked a bold evolution: heavier, rougher, yet still rooted in the raw purity of ’90s alternative rock. “You” embodies this trajectory—uncompromising in its energy, meticulous in its execution, and alive with the kind of live-wire intensity that’s earned them praise for their explosive performances. Tripod isn’t just revisiting grunge; they’re reigniting it with Scandinavian fire.
