iVy "yugamu pink"
Sounds from Japan
16/10/2025 | iVy’s “yugamu pink” is a dreamy, emotionally textured journey that captures the hazy warmth of late-night introspection with a distinctly Japanese alt-pop sensibility. Clocking in at 4 minutes and 17 seconds, the track unfolds in two delicate movements, carried by a pulsing groove and richly layered arrangements that feel both intimate and expansive. Its slightly lo-fi, “cassette-tape” grit adds nostalgic charm without sacrificing modernity, evoking the raw, analog spirit of ‘90s indie acts like El Otro Yo—particularly the dreamy, vulnerable vocal delivery reminiscent of María Fernanda Aldana. Yet iVy never leans too heavily into retro pastiche; instead, they filter these influences through a 2020s lens, crafting a sound that’s precariously personal, tender, and quietly defiant.
Formed in Tokyo in 2023, the duo—vocalist/guitarist Fuki and vocalist/keyboardist Pupu—build their music around the enigmatic fictional persona of “iVy,” a concept that infuses their work with narrative depth and atmospheric cohesion. Their debut full-length album, Konran suru Apatite, released in June 2025, established them as compelling voices in Japan’s alternative scene, culminating in a sold-out solo show at Shibuya WWW that August. That performance—featuring a full band for the first time and immersive spatial design—revealed the full scope of iVy’s artistic vision. With “yugamu pink,” they offer not just a song, but an invitation into their fragile, luminous world: one where weariness and kindness coexist, and where every distorted chord and whispered harmony feels like a secret shared between friends.
