Sunburnt Sky x Clint Warren Wide "Eyed Dub"

Sounds from the USA

14/10/2025 |

Sunburnt Sky, the brainchild of Mike “Seels” Seely from southern Utah, delivers a refreshing fusion of sun-soaked reggae rhythms and introspective indie rock—a sound as expansive as the desert skies that inspired it. Rooted in the alternative rock canon of U2, INXS, and Radiohead, Seels’ musical journey began early, resulting in four self-released albums between 2011 and 2019. But it was his formative teenage years in the Dominican Republic, immersed in the spirit of Bob Marley, combined with a deep love for Sublime and UB40, that planted the seeds for his genre-blurring project. The arrival of modern reggae-rock acts like Stick Figure, The Movement, and Iya Terra finally gave shape to Sunburnt Sky, crystallizing Seels’ vision into something both nostalgic and contemporary.

The project’s 2022 debut album, The Ten Thousand Things, showcases this hybrid identity with eleven original tracks that balance laid-back grooves and melodic rock sensibilities, rounded out by a dreamy, reimagined cover of Empire of the Sun’s “Walking on a Dream.” Just months later, Sunburnt Sky collaborated with Reno Powers on the single “Sweet Fire,” further expanding its sonic palette. What sets Sunburnt Sky apart is its ability to evoke warmth and wanderlust without sacrificing emotional depth—Seels crafts songs that feel like a sunset drive through canyon country, where reggae’s ease meets indie rock’s yearning. With its feet in two worlds and its gaze fixed on the horizon, Sunburnt Sky offers a sound that’s both comforting and quietly revolutionary.
