Nick Vivid "Volunteer"
Sounds from the USA
22/09/2025 | Nick Vivid’s new single “Volunteer” is a masterclass in genre-blurring sophistication, weaving together indie pop, neo-soul, and contemporary R&B into a lush, 4’13” meditation on generosity and emotional boundaries. With a laid-back groove that feels both hypnotic and effortlessly cool, the track channels the melodic finesse of the Bee Gees, the sensual confidence of Prince, and the atmospheric depth of Pink Floyd—yet remains unmistakably Vivid. Built on rich chord progressions, warm analog textures, and a melody that lingers like a half-remembered dream, “Volunteer” explores the bittersweet reality of giving too much and being taken for granted. It’s a personal favorite from his upcoming album Volatile, and it’s easy to hear why: every element—from the interplay of instruments to the nuanced vocal delivery—feels intentional, intimate, and deeply felt.
Set for release on October 24, 2025 via MegaPlatinum Records, Volatile marks Nick Vivid’s most ambitious and cohesive work to date. A loose concept album reflecting on his early, turbulent years in New York City, it captures the raw vulnerability of chasing dreams amid uncertainty. True to his DIY ethos, Vivid constructed much of the album’s gear himself—hand-building pedals, synth filters, and custom preamps inspired by Giorgio Moroder’s legendary Helios console—and mixed the entire record to tape, achieving a rare balance of retro warmth and futuristic experimentation. Raised in Buffalo on a diet of soul, blues, Bowie, and Queen, Vivid has long defied categorization, but with Volatile, he fully realizes his singular vision: a sound that’s glamorous yet gritty, electronic yet organic, nostalgic yet boldly forward-looking. “Volunteer” is just one gem in a collection that cements Vivid’s status as a fearless sonic architect, unafraid to build his own tools, rules, and universe—one track at a time.
