Dub Zoo’s “Something in the Way” is a smooth, swaying groove that blends the soulful pulse of reggae with a funky, forward-driving rhythm, clocking in at a tight 3'38". Hailing from Australia’s Sunshine Coast, the collective delivers a track that feels both effortlessly laid-back and irresistibly propulsive, anchored by a deep, pushing bass line and a marching groove that locks you in from the first beat. The melodic vocals and lush harmonies, courtesy of Benny G (Ben Goldstein of Hot Potato Band), echo the golden era of UB40 while still sounding fresh and distinctly Australian. Inspired by Kiwi reggae giants like L.A.B, The Black Seeds, and Fat Freddy’s Drop, the song balances weight and warmth—a heavy groove wrapped in hazy, sun-soaked vibes.

Recorded in a single, spontaneous take by the core rhythm section—Paddy Kiernan, Bradley 'B-Dubs' Wenham, and Leon Tussie—the track captures the raw energy and organic chemistry that defines Dub Zoo’s live spirit. Penned and sung by Benny G during a dreamy evening session at Dub Zoo HQ, “Something in the Way” marks the collective’s first self-produced release and sets a bold tone for their upcoming Pocketful EP. Led by Noongar bassist and visionary B-Dubs, with multi-instrumentalist Lee Hardisty adding rich textures on keys and sax, Dub Zoo thrives on collaboration and spontaneity. This first taste of the EP promises more of their signature skank-ready rhythms, soulful vocals, and genre-blurring creativity—alongside guest features and remixes that celebrate the depth of their musical community. Spring just got a whole lot funkier.
