Sorry Marshal "Off the Wagon"
Sounds from the USA
Sorry Marshal returns with "Off the Wagon", a compelling blend of Indie Rock, Alternative Rock and Emo that showcases the band’s emotional depth and sonic intensity. Led by an angular, sharply defined guitar riff, the track cuts through layers of textured sound with precision, creating a dynamic soundscape that's both raw and melodic. Filled with hazy atmospherics and driven by hook-laden shoegaze elements, the song balances waves of fuzzed-out distortion with introspective melodies. Lyrically, it delves into themes of self-destruction and the ongoing battle for self-control, capturing the turbulence of personal struggle with honesty and emotional urgency.
The project was originally launched in 2019 by Baltimore-based musician Greg Palmer after over a decade away from the music scene, with the release of a debut EP under the Sorry Marshal moniker. However, the momentum was halted by the pandemic, prompting Palmer to shift focus toward another project, the local shoegaze band Talking to Shadows. When uncertainty surrounded the future of that group, Palmer reignited Sorry Marshal in early 2024, teaming up with Talking to Shadows’ drummer Alex Hughes to record Back on the Wagon — a symbolic and musical rebirth of the project.
The resulting album reflects a fusion of Indie Rock and Shoegaze influences, enriched with lo-fi textures and a strong DIY ethos rooted in Palmer’s experience within the Baltimore music scene . With "Off the Wagon" serving as its centerpiece, the record captures a mood of melancholy resilience and creative reinvigoration. It’s a testament to Sorry Marshal’s evolving sound — emotionally grounded, sonically layered, and deeply personal — setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting new chapter.
