Astara Black "Rollerbird"

Sounds from the USA

17/06/2025 |

Astara Black, the new musical project of Whitney Cline, emerges as a deeply personal and spiritual journey through indie rock and indie pop landscapes. Born in Indianapolis and raised between Massachusetts and Maine, Cline began her artistic path at 18 before briefly pursuing acting—studying at RADA in London and later earning an MFA from Rutgers University. While living in Los Angeles and working with Jeff Bridges on Blown Away , she became immersed in the city’s thriving singer-songwriter scene, which saw the rise of artists like Katy Perry and Sara Bareilles. After releasing her debut album Bring on The Rain in 2004, she stepped away from music to focus on life’s practicalities—until the birth of Astara Black reignited her creative flame.

The name Astara Black was conceived during a transformative Ayahuasca retreat in Peru, symbolizing a return to self and a deeper connection to life’s energy. This vision recently took shape through a collaboration with Eric Davis (keyboardist for Hembree), who helped produce and engineer the rollerbird EP. Featuring a nice riff with a distinctive groove, the track showcases Astara Black’s unique sonic identity, where warm yet ethereal vocals float over rich, textured instrumentation. The voice sounds both warm and frozen at the same time—an intriguing contrast that enhances the emotional depth of the song. With its nice dynamics and atmospheric production, Rollerbird marks not only a musical rebirth for Whitney Cline but also a heartfelt reconnection to authenticity, nature, and the unseen threads that bind us all.
